When We Pray!

Ties bandanna, wears nose mask, armed with long broom, the perfect jazz and soft rock music playing…Taemytayo is clearing the cobwebs on her blog.

It’s been a while i made an appearance here, that’s not for a lack of thought or lack of what to write, no it’s definitely none of that. Basically, i have been going through things, learning things…so much to take in, that articulating them has become a bit of a challenge. Well here I am, resurfaced to share some things i have learnt these past months.

First I’d like to ask a question, what goes through your mind when you pray?

Do you expect the answer to your prayers to be in the format you envisaged?

Or

Do you expect your will to prevail over God’s will?
Or

Are you in the prayer of Gethsemane category of Lord let your will be done?

39 Going a little ahead, he fell on his face, praying, “My Father, if there is any way, get me out of this. But please, not what I want. You, what do you want?”- Matthew 26: 39 MSG

Often times as human beings we expect things to happen through our calculations i.e we want a car, Lord let my car loan request be approved or let me be blessed financially to buy a car, we forget the power of the God of wonders. What makes you think you can’t be given a car as a gift?

The more we grow in Christ, we understand that our wish may necessarily not be aligned with God; Jesus understood that in the garden of Gethsemane and that’s why he said in verse 42-

“My Father, if there is no other way than this, drinking this cup to the dregs, I’m ready. Do it your way.”- Matthew 26:42 MSG

Trust makes or mar every relationship, a relationship where trust is out of the window is a doomed relationship. As one who has a relationship with God, when we pray, we connect our spirit with God, telling Him how we truly feel (all facade of strength has been dropped), we are naked with Him, telling Him what we would love the end result of what we are feeling should be, but trusting Him to choose the best option for us.

When God tells you, “relax, I’ve got this” (through His word or the HolySpirit), He really has got it. So like i tell my family and close friends, don’t do the maths for God, He knows every strand of hair on your head and has only your interest at heart. Are you praying for something and all road seems blocked? You should be more confident in God’s ability to make a way for you- He specializes in that…look at the world we live in, He made it out of nothing, look at all the inventions in this world he created man out of mere dust!

Often times when we pray, we aren’t ready for the answer to our prayer, but guess what, no one commits his ways to God is ever disappointed. Praying to God for that promotion and you got laid off? It’s a hard reality to face, but your answer may just be that dismissal, in the future when you take a retrospective look at the past (your current present), you will be thankful for being laid off. How else would you have started that business that’s the answer to people’s prayers? How else would you have had that chanced meet with your future partner?

If God can take care of the lilies whose raiment is prettier than Solomon’s robe (a very rich fashion conscious king), if God can send food to Elijah through the most stingy bird, the Raven…not once but twice a day, if God can use mud (that is suppose to muddy one’s sight) to give sight to a blind man, then you should trust the same God to sort you out when you pray.

If God is not answering you in the route you expected, that’s because you are working with sentiments and limited knowledge. Remember He uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.

When we pray, always ensure you let go and let God, be open to the different routes through which he will answer your prayer. When in doubt, just believe and tell all who cares to know #God’sgotit!
