All that was promised…and then some!

Merry Christmas to you, it’s indeed the most beautiful time of the year!

The story of the birth of Jesus Christ has been making waves since the day it happened. The gossip mill was in overdrive, the wise men did their own share of walking and gift shopping, the angels had their feature down here on earth, Herod had his unusual tantrum, Bethlehem was bursting with activities, in all these, our Saviour was born and since then He has been a point of reference.

A lot of people had looked forward to the birth of the Saviour, that will save us all from Adam and Eve garden of Eden’s indiscretion- he was coming we were all sure of that, but when exactly, we didn’t know. Isaiah had predicted his coming:

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.- Isaiah 9:6
John the Baptist was born to announce His coming:
I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.- Matthew 3:11
When Jesus finally made it to earth, He was all that was promised, He was a wonderful counselor (defending every miracle done, presenting His case with relevant scriptures, explaining to all who cared to listen how things operate when ruled with love rather than the law), He was a mighty God on earth (com-mon-nnnn raising a 4-day old corpse; giving site to the blind, gutsy enough to scatter the market made in the church, feeding over 5,000 people with just 2 fishes and 5 loaves of bread), he was indeed the Everlasting Father (drawing children to himself, chastising people where necessary, moved with genuine act of love by one of his kids- the story of the alabaster box), he was the Prince of peace (stopping fights with right kind of words- remember the adultery case brought to him, the appropriate parables to drive home his points etc.), the beautiful thing about Jesus is He was and still is all the things that was promised and more.
Jesus came into the world to give us life, hope, something to look forward at the end of our sojourn in this world, He came into this world to ensure we are indeed heirs of the Father. Understanding how the world operates and seem to listen and favour kids from influential family background, I’d say God chose the right couple to birth the Redeemer, ensuring He had no advantage whatsoever in the saving of our souls.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.- Romans 8:19
As joint heirs with the Son (Jesus), we have access to the same power to manifest, you have access to become who God has destined you to be in Christ Jesus. Jesus became a hit in his very short time here on earth (and still is), if God has promised you something, and from all indications nothing is happening, never stop believing God, He won’t promise you what He won’t do, He is the unchangeable changer, capable of changing your story in a flash. If you are still here on earth it’s because God knows you are here to shine, He created you to be outstanding.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.- Matthew 5:14-15
This Christmas, I want you to keep hope alive and believe in God and His promises, if He has promised you anything, be assured you are getting it- it may not be in the package you expect (like the Jews didn’t expect the Saviour to be born in the package and family background he landed in), God is a sure God, a sure performer who always has something extra (He promised a soul Saviour, He added some extra like physically heal people, gift of the Holyspirit) in the package as well. Just hold on to God, though He isn’t Santa Claus, He knows your pressing needs, and will give you want you need and not just what you want.
Despite Herod’s tantrums of killing of all male children, Jesus still survived and did what He was here on earth to do- fulfill God’s promise to everyone on earth, so don’t be weighed down by policies, financial situation, emotional state, etc. you will see God’s promises for your life come to pass.
It is a season of love and hope, spread love, spread hope and give God glory. Remember when you do things out of genuine love, it is explosive- ask the innovators and inventors.
Merry Christmas people, in our merrying let’s not forget that Christ is the reason for the season.
