Table for Two

There’s no avoiding it, it’s Valentine’s day; so here’s me wishing you a Happy Valentine’s day, do enjoy your day and make the best of it.

Which will you prefer when you are with your significant other?

Would you prefer a dining hall style feeding, where everyone is there eating, not everybody knows why they are there, people are eating their way through the food pile, random conversations. All these taking away the attention of your significant other, infact your significant other doesn’t the get the aloneness he craves with you- the “gbo gbo ero” kind of style.

Or would you prefer a private dining room, a table for two, candlelit dinner, with no pretence, no hiding, good food, lovely drink and great conversation, where your significant other know they’ve got you all for themselves?

Which would you choose?

I’d go for option 2, I’d rather have a moment alone with the one I love than thousands of crowded moment with some unknown people…yes, I love that way.

I’d like us to liken these scenarios to our walk with God and our lives. What style of worship are you giving God, what sort of worship are you giving God? The gbo gbo ero kind of worship or are you giving him the table for two kind-of-worship. What is the ‘gbo gbo ero’ kind of worship you may ask? It is the time out with God that is only gathering based, the one that has to wait till Sunday mornings, or weekday services before you lift Him up as your God.

Relationships thrive when there is intimacy, intimacy isn’t sex based, intimacy is when you take time out to seek your significant other, you see each other’s weakness and see them through, you see their best time and you share it with them. Intimacy is what makes a relationship, intimacy is when you come clean with each other, intimacy is what God wants from us.

God is constantly telling us to be intimate with Him, we can’t get that sort of intimacy in the congregation, you only get that with long conversations, long walks and unreserved worship. You only get that sort of intimacy when you take out time to be alone with God. You know you can be in a crowded place and still be intimate with God, yes that’s possible. Look at Mary with the expensive perfume-

Six days before Passover, Jesus entered Bethany where Lazarus, so recently raised from the dead, was living. Lazarus and his sisters invited Jesus to dinner at their home. Martha served. Lazarus was one of those sitting at the table with them. Mary came in with a jar of very expensive aromatic oils, anointed and massaged Jesus’ feet, and then wiped them with her hair. The fragrance of the oils filled the house. – John 12: 1-3

God isn’t telling you to clean up yourself before coming to Him, He wants you to make the mistake but still trust Him to love you and wipe you clean through His son’s blood. He’s dropped this hint in His love letters.

It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.- John 4:24

Today, I’d like you to make a decision to make your worship with God as intimate as you can fathom. If you don’t know how to do this, ask the help of the HolySpirit

If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.- James 1: 5-8

Worship God with your life, after all, His son gave His life so you can have one, let worship be your lifeblood, your every waking moment.

God wants to be intimate with you, He’s always looking for a one-on-one time with you:

“Come. Sit down. Let’s argue this out.”
    This is God’s Message:
“If your sins are blood-red,
    they’ll be snow-white.
If they’re red like crimson,
they’ll be like wool.-  Isaiah 1:18

He is telling you to argue it out with Him, let Him know your view point, and give Him the room to tell you why things are the way it is.

So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet- James 4:7-10

Avoid the rush and the gbo gbo ero blessings, be intentional, live that table for two type of intimate worship. Ask for help, no one knows what God wants better than the HolySpirit.

P.S: Gbo Gbo Ero is a Nigerian Yoruba statement that means: “Every Tom, Dick, and Harry”
